Mullein: The Old-Fashioned Lung Herb in a Two-Ingredient Tincture

If you grew up around old-fashioned herbalists, you've heard of mullein. The tall, velvet-leaved plant (Verbascum thapsus) has held a place in Western herbalism for generations as the lung-and-airway herb — the one home herbalists reached for when the air got thick and the coughing started.

Dr. Casey's Mullein Tincture ($19.95) keeps it as simple as an extract can be: mullein leaf and a little ethanol, extracted small-batch right here in our shop in Lucedale, MS. No fillers, no mystery blends — just the herb.

What does the research say? A 2005 review in Phytotherapy Research gathers up mullein's long traditional history and what researchers have looked at so far. And in laboratory work on animal tissue, mullein extract relaxed smooth muscle by acting on calcium channels (BMC Complementary & Alternative Medicine, 2012). Worth saying plainly, though: human clinical trials are still lacking. Tradition is doing a lot of the talking here, and we'd rather tell you that honestly than overclaim.

You'll find the Mullein Tincture alongside the rest of Dr. Casey's small-batch line on our app: brilliant-llama-3aba62.netlify.app — search "mullein" or browse the Respiratory & Sinus shelf.
