Vanilla Tallow: The Two-Ingredient Balm Your Skin Already Recognizes

If you've ever flipped over a jar of moisturizer and needed a chemistry degree to read the label, this one's for you, mama. Dr. Casey's Vanilla Tallow ($19.95) has exactly two ingredients: grass-fed tallow and real vanilla bean. That's it — no seed oils, no synthetic fragrance, nothing to Google.

Dr. Casey's Vanilla Tallow balm

Why tallow? Grass-fed tallow is rich in the same kinds of fatty acids found naturally in our own skin, which is why generations of mamas reached for it long before "skincare" was an aisle at the store. It melts in on contact and leaves skin soft, not greasy — lovely for dry elbows, wind-chapped cheeks, and hardworking hands, with a warm vanilla scent that feels like a small everyday treat.

And it's not just granny wisdom. A 2024 scoping review in Cureus found evidence supporting tallow's traditional use in skin care — with the honest note that more human research is still needed (pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/38910727). We also know skin-surface fatty acids play a critical role in keeping the skin barrier healthy (Dermatol Ther 2013). Simple fats, doing what simple fats have always done.

Each jar is whipped in small batches right here at the shop in Lucedale, MS. Supplies are limited — when a batch is gone, it's gone until we render the next one.
